Sweetened Condensed Milk

Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk | The Baking Beauties

I don’t know if you are like me or not, but when I look through a recipe, I very often find that I am missing one or two of the ingredients that I need to make it. I found that the last time I was wanting to try a new granola bar recipe. It called for a can of sweetened condensed milk, which I didn’t have in my cupboard. So, I kept looking through my recipe books, and ended up finding a recipe for Sweetened Condensed Milk! I had no idea how easy it was to make it, and it did taste like the stuff in a can. Very simple to make, and you’ll be right back into baking in no time.

That is hilarious, Crystal! Unfortunately, my granola bars didn’t turn out great, but at least the sweetened condensed milk was good. :)

Now I only have to add “powdered skim milk” to my cupboard … Because I don’t have that either 😉
But it may come in handy.

Betty, cheaper is better, right?? :) Plus, you can make it when you need it, and it’s the equivalent to one can, so it doesn’t get much better than that. :)
Frix, I find that a lot of GF bread recipes call for powdered milk, so I now stock it. I’ve never had it in my cupboard before going gf.

For dairy free, you could try substituting the powdered skim milk with powdered soy milk, which should be available at health food/natural food stores.

Now I wonder just how many people will stop eating condensed milk now that they know the contents. I think the have changed the evaporated milk too, as we didn’t used to have to shake it. – Margaret
