Using Your Slow Cooker for Fast Food #chickendotca

I’ve been away from Manitoba for most of the month, first with a family trip to Florida (I’ll write more about that another time), and the past few days in Vancouver, BC at a food bloggers conference. I’ve hardly had time to notice, but it is definitely fall here. Although it’s great for year round, I find myself getting my slow cooker out more when the temperatures begin to drop. Pumpkin spice lattes and slow cookers – that’s what happens when autumn hits.

I know that a slow cooker cooks, well, slowly, but have you ever thought of it as using your slow cooker for fast food? There aren’t a lot of cooking methods where you can spend 5-10 minutes prepping, throw it all together, and walk away, going on with your day, only to come back and have a full, hot meal waiting for you. Using a slow cooker can be an easy, no fuss way to have a satisfying home-cooked meal ready for you at the end of the day.

This month, Chicken Farmers of Canada wants to encourage you to get your slow cookers out and use them. They have a wide variety of recipes that are perfectly suited for the “set it and forget it” convenience that the slow cooker offers you. Like this French Fusion Braised Chicken Dinner (click for the full recipe) that I prepared today. It was such a simple recipe with such basic ingredients, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but my family loved it. My youngest endorsed the meal by giving me a fist-bump across the table. The Chicken and Sweet Potato Stew and the Chicken and Cranberry Wild Rice Casserole (using gluten-free Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce) both look equally delicious as well.
