Sprinkled with cinnamon and chopped walnuts and sweetened with honey, these Baked Pears are healthy enough for breakfast or sweet enough for dessert.
Come fall, everyone thinks of apple and pumpkin as being the “go to” ingredient in their baking. However, pears are in season at the same time.
These easy Baked Pears will become a go-to recipe for you once you find out how easy they are to make. You don’t need to peel the pears to bake them, just use a spoon to remove the core once you’ve cut it in half. Once you’ve done that, you’re half way to enjoying these honey and walnut baked pears.
This simple baked pears recipe uses only four ingredients, three of which you most likely have at home already. All you need is some ripe pears, ground cinnamon, chopped walnuts or pecans, and some liquid honey.
How do you know when a pear is ripe?
To tell if a pear is ripe enough to use, gently push with your thumb near the stem. If it has some give, it is ready to eat. If it is still very hard, you will have to use a few more days. As the pears ripen, they will become sweeter.
How to cut pears for baking:
When cutting the pears to bake them, you just cut it in half from top to bottom. That will expose the seeds in the middle. Use a teaspoon or melon baller to simply remove that little core.
You can leave the stem on the pears when you bake them. They are easy to remove once they are baked, and I think they make the pears look pretty.
Substitutions:
If you don’t have walnuts, or don’t want to use walnuts, you can substitute them with pecans or almonds. If you’re looking for a nut-free alternative, broken up gluten free pretzels would add a nice, salty crunch. Of course, you can omit them all together, and this recipe would still taste great.
If you only have creamed honey at home, place a few tablespoons in a microwave safe dish, and microwave in 10 second intervals until it is liquid. Alternately, you could drizzle the pears with real maple syrup instead of honey. I would not use pancake syrup.
Serving Suggestions:
You can enjoy these simple Baked Pears for breakfast or dessert. They are great served for breakfast with a dollop of Greek vanilla yogurt. That’s all you need.
For dessert, they would be great served with a scoop of gluten free vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. I think they would be perfect served with a slice of Gluten Free Vanilla Bundt cake and a dollop of sweetened whipped cream.

Easy Baked Pears
Sprinkled with cinnamon and chopped walnuts and sweetened with honey, these Baked Pears are healthy enough for breakfast or sweet enough for dessert.
Ingredients
- 4 pears, sliced in half lengthwise with seeds removed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons liquid honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Slice a small piece off the rounded side of each pear half so that it will sit flat in the baking pan. Place pears in an oven-safe baking dish.
- Sprinkle each pear with the cinnamon. No need to measure, just sprinkle on as much as you’d like.
- Top each pear half with chopped walnuts, about 1-2 teaspoons per.
- Drizzle the pear slices with a little bit of honey. You don’t need much, just a light drizzle.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. The pears will still be firm but will have expelled some juices during baking.
- Allow the pears to cool before serving. If serving with ice cream, you can serve them while they are still warm. You can also allow to cool completely, cover, and refrigerate. This is how my family prefers them when we are eating them with vanilla yogurt. You can drizzle with more honey before serving.

MMmm! Will try this!! – FYI best not to cook with honey. Instead, add after cooking. Honey is not good with high temps 🙂
